Geometric Embroidery - SELF-GUIDED

Introduction

Day 1 – Introduction and Supplies Good morning! Welcome to your first day of our embroidery class! Later today I will be posting two videos, a stitch video, and a class video, to get you started. I will then post a new stitch video each day this week and then one class video per week for the following weeks. Today’s class video will get you started practicing your 5 basic stitches. Please take some time to practice the stitches this week and next week we will begin creating our design. Today I also want to give you a bit more detailed supplies list.

Supplies List
8” Embroidery Hoop – Wood ones are nice, but you could also use plastic as well. Amazon- https://amzn.to/3aDvG8X JoAnn’s- https://www.joann.com/wooden-embroidery-hoop/zprd_16784092a.html?dwvar_zprd__16784092a_variationAttribute=16784142&quantity=1 Michael’s- https://www.michaels.com/loops-and-threads-wooden-embroidery-hoop/10124160.html

• Embroidery Needle – The ones below are the ones you will see me use in class. They are just over 2.5”. You don’t want a needle that is too wide or too long as it may be harder to handle and hard on the fabric. Amazon https://amzn.to/3ct31G0 JoAnn’s - https://www.joann.com/embroidery-hand-needles-12-pkg/prd34693.html Michael’s - https://www.michaels.com/dmc-embroidery-needles/M10216629.html?dwvar_M10216629_size=5&dwvar_M10216629_color=None

• At least 5 Colors of Embroidery Floss- You may choose whatever colors you like. You will use one color per stitch. I recommend getting a organizer box with floss already on the bobbins. You could also get a multi-pack as well. Amazon – Organizer Box - https://amzn.to/3trkp46 JoAnn’s – Multi-Pack - https://www.joann.com/dmc-embroidery-floss-pack-8.7-yards-16-pkg-new-floss-colors/13379912.html Michael’s – Organizer Box - https://www.michaels.com/embroidery-floss-organizer-kit-by-loops-and-threads/10545665.html • 2 11”x11” Pieces of Muslin Fabric – You can easily get both these out of 1 yard of muslin and have some leftover to make a handwork bag. I recommend getting your fabric at a local store, but there are a few links below if you need to order. Amazon - https://amzn.to/3tp9Ezl JoAnn's - https://www.joann.com/sew-essentials-unbleachd-muslin-36in/7791601.html • Colored Pencils – Any kind will work. We will use them to work on our design and on our practice fabric. • Paper and Pencil – We will be using this to sketch out our design. I recommend using a wooden pencil as it writes better on fabric. Welcome to this self-guided version  of Geometric Embroidery!

There are 4 lessons in this class. We recommend doing one per week.
