Lessons
Welcome to our Waldorf-Inspired Math Gnomes class. Before we begin please make sure that you have all of your materials ready for the video lesson that I will be posting later today.
The most important things you will need today is a Main Lesson Book and block and stick crayons. Your Main Lesson Book is where you will put your drawings and practice for your math skills.
This can be an actual Main Lesson Book that you buy from a Waldorf resource or it can be as simple as a blank sketchbook. I do encourage you to use a sketchpad that is coil bound and has no lines. Alternatively, some families choose to do their lesson books on loose leaf blank paper and then bind them at the end.
Some additional items that you might want to have as we go along with the class are as follows:
A set of 2 12-sided dice
A set of playing cards
Sidewalk Chalk
We will use these items to play math games and facilitate active learning.
Finally, I will be posting your first video lesson later today. Today’s lesson will include setting up our lesson book and a review of quality of numbers. If you are in quality of numbers class already this will give you a great overview of all the numbers we will talk about during that class. Of course, if you would prefer, you may skip that part of the lesson if you would rather be surprised.
